About the Event
Soulful songstress Phoebe Day and fiery saxophonist Joel Sena make their Melbourne debut on the Paris Cat stage. Joined by a lineup of the finest musicians, the pair is prepared to create a night of intimate, passionate and emotive music.
Phoebe Day is her own flavour of silky smooth, jazz-infused soul. With an unmistakable vocal, the sultry tones of her music are a unique blend of old and new inspired by the greats of jazz, soul, RNB and blues. There's a quiet vulnerability in Phoebe's music. It transports the listener into her world, extending a warm invitation to look around and stay a while. Tasty, sophisticated melodies, soothing harmony and laid-back grooves complete her signature sound. Her debut EP Place In Time was released late 2017 and received local and international praise. The recording was produced by Joel Sena and features his striking voice on saxophone.
Joel isn’t too concerned with the superficial. His music is filled with a visceral, emotional urgency that pulls you in and speaks to you. His voice on the saxophone is championing an authenticity and depth that’s rare in music today. Joel is one of many young saxophonists forging a fresh, relevant sound for the instrument. That’s what his 2017 EP In Transit is all about. It’s a direct and melodic statement on the saxophone. The EP features vocalist Phoebe Day and her powerful performances on Grindin’ and First Thing. Joel is here to connect and resonate with you, if you’re ready to take the journey.
While both Phoebe and Joel are strong artists in their own right, when the two come together they create magic on stage and in the studio. Join us for an evening of sax-drenched, jazz-infused soul.
